#CREATEWELCOME

So what is the #CreateWelcome campaign?

#CreateWelcome is a social movement inspiring people to create messages of welcome and belonging for newly arrived Queenslanders, including refugees, people seeking asylum, migrants and international students. Through Instagram, thousands of people are sharing their welcome messages. Please join them and add your voice. It takes collective effort to create an inclusive, welcoming community.

Help to build the Welcome Wall

Each message adds to the giant welcome wall on our website. Once you post to Instagram using the #CreateWelcome hashtag, the image goes straight to the Welcome Wall, adding your voice to the movement.

See yourself on goa’s digital billboards

The Welcome Wall is fantastic, but here’s the really cool bit. From 1 April – 30 June 2016 the best messages are displayed on goa’s, impressive digital billboard network. With 85% of South East Queensland reached every week, that’s an audience of over two million people!

goa are Queensland’s largest billboard company. In January 2016 MDA and goa entered into a community partnership to deliver the #CreateWelcome campaign.

Why #CreateWelcome?

Refugees and people seeking asylum are among Australia’s most vulnerable new arrivals. Your messages of inclusion, friendship and generosity will tackle negative rhetoric and represent our shared promise to people seeking a safer life in Australia. It’s who we are. Since federation, Australia has welcomed three-quarters of a million refugees.
